When you visit rm-worx.be, standard technical information is logged by the hosting environment: IP address, date and time of access, requested URL, browser/user agent and referrer. Why? 🛡️ To keep the website secure, to detect abuse (e.g. attacks, weird traffic) and to troubleshoot technical issues. Legal basis: legitimate interest in running a secure and reliable website.
The site uses a very simple global visit counter backed by Firebase. Each page load increments a numeric counter stored in a Firestore document. What is stored? A single number like "total visits = 1234". The same mechanism also keeps aggregated click counters for the project buttons (e.g. "web app chosen X times"): one number per button, with no information about who clicked. No profiles, no tracking across other sites. The Fortune Cookie tool stores the sealed cookie as an end-to-end encrypted blob (at most 7 days, deleted after opening). The decryption key travels only inside the share link and never reaches the server — we cannot read the content. Why? 🧮 Just to get a rough idea of how often the site is used. Legal basis: legitimate interest in understanding basic usage of the site.
In your browser, a local visit counter is stored in localStorage (e.g. "this device has visited X times"). This value stays on your device. It is used to display a small counter and to avoid double-counting in the global counter. Why? 💾 A tiny quality-of-life feature plus slightly more accurate global stats. Legal basis: legitimate interest in providing this feature and basic statistics.
There is no contact form on this site. If you contact me by email (for example via the Mail link), I will process the data you send: your email address, name (if present) and the content of your message. Why? 📧 To answer your questions, discuss possible projects and keep track of our communication. Legal basis: performance of a contract or pre-contractual steps (e.g. discussing an assignment) and legitimate interest in managing incoming requests.
• Technical logs: kept by the hosting provider only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting (typically up to 12 months). • Global visit counter: the aggregated number of visits is kept as long as the site is running. It does not identify individual visitors. • Local visit counter: stored in your own browser until you clear your localStorage or browser data. • Email communication: kept for a normal business period (e.g. several years), taking into account legal retention obligations (accounting, contracts, etc.).
